Admin assistant, bookkeeper, analyst, data entry, office manager or HR. Each track covers only what that test asks.
Work in a live grid with real data. Every exercise can reshuffle its numbers, so you can't memorize answers.
We check the result, not just the text, and explain the mistake in one plain sentence. Every solve earns XP toward levels, badges and a streak. See your progress.
SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, IF, ROUND, percentages and absolute references like $B$2.
VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX and MATCH, plus handling a value that isn't in the table.
TRIM, PROPER, UPPER, LEFT, RIGHT and joining text with &. Data entry tests lean on these.
YEAR, DATE, DATEDIF for tenure, and counting dates before a cutoff. Common on HR and bookkeeping tests.
Sorting, filtering, pivot tables, charts and conditional formatting are done with menus, not formulas, so the grader can't check them yet.
An Excel practice test is a set of timed spreadsheet exercises that copy the format of a pre-employment Excel assessment. You get a small data set, a target cell, and a task like "total the sales column" or "count the orders over $500." The test checks the result your formula produces. CellReady runs these exercises in your browser, grades them instantly, and explains each mistake in one sentence.
Job seekers who have an Excel test coming up for an administrative, bookkeeping, data entry, HR, office manager or analyst role. Also employers, trainers and teachers who need to test or teach spreadsheet skills.
The grader runs your formula on live data instead of matching text, so any correct approach passes. Numbers reshuffle on every attempt, so you learn the logic instead of memorizing answers. Progress, XP and badges keep you practicing.
The core set of exercises is free with no account. The full set of role tracks and timed mock tests is $12 a month, cancel any time. Teams and schools pay per group.
CellReady covers the skills that appear on the most common pre-employment Excel tests in the United States:
Short timed tests employers send by link, often about 10 minutes. Mostly what a formula returns, conditional functions and lookups. Indeed retired its own Excel test, so many employers moved to tools like these.
Originally IBM Kenexa, now sold by SHL. Normal User and Power User levels, for Excel versions from 2003 to 2016. Covers formulas and formatting, and the Power User level adds advanced formulas. What to expect.
A spreadsheet and a set of questions to answer before or during the interview. Common for analyst and finance roles. How to prepare.
Many companies give candidates a workbook and 30 to 60 minutes. These vary the most, which is why CellReady organizes practice by job role instead of by test vendor.
CellReady is not affiliated with SHL, IBM Kenexa, TestGorilla, Indeed, LinkedIn or Microsoft. We do not copy their questions. We cover the formula skills these tests check. Indeed and LinkedIn have both retired their skills assessments.
Most Excel tests for office jobs check five areas. Here is what each one asks, and what we recommend you can do without hesitating before test day.
SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, COUNT, percentages and simple arithmetic. Expect at least a third of the questions here.
IF, COUNTIF, SUMIF and sometimes AND and OR. The most common place people lose points.
Relative versus absolute references, like B2 versus $B$2, and copying a formula down a column without breaking it.
VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, and INDEX with MATCH. Required for analyst and bookkeeping roles, optional for admin roles.
Sort a table, filter to one category, remove duplicates, format numbers as currency, freeze the header row.
Most people with some Excel experience are ready after about three hours of practice spread over one week. Complete beginners should plan on two weeks of 20-minute daily sessions.
There is no standard passing score. Each employer sets its own line, and many look at the score next to your resume rather than as a strict pass or fail. Aim to get every basic and conditional question right.
Yes. CellReady runs entirely in the browser. You type formulas in a simplified grid and the grader checks the result, so you don't need Microsoft 365.
Yes. Almost every formula on an Excel test works the same in Google Sheets. Switch the practice page to Google Sheets mode and the grid and labels change to match.
The core exercises are free with no account. A free account saves your progress across devices. Paid plans add role-specific tracks and timed mock tests.
Conditional functions and absolute references. People know SUM and AVERAGE but freeze on COUNTIF, SUMIF and when to use $ signs. Those get the most practice time on CellReady.
